Actress/playwright Danai Gurira best known to film audiences for her role in Tom McCarthy's THE VISITOR, Gurira appeared last January in award winner Eric Mendelsohn's THREE BACKYARDS. More recently, Gurira was on the big screen in Wes Craven's disturbing MY SOUL TO TAKE. An NYU trained actor, Gurira also has made a name for herself in the theater. Last spring, she made her Broadway debut in Bartlett Sher's revival of JOE TURNER'S COME AND GONE. Danai first established herself on stage by co-writing and co-starring in the critically acclaimed IN THE CONTINUUM. Gurira's second playwriting effort, ECLIPSED, set in a rebel camp in war-torn Sierra Leone, had productions last year at the McCarter, Yale Rep, Wooly Mammoth and Kirk Douglas Theaters. On television, Gurira recurs on David Simon's new HBO series TREME. Guest star appearances include LIE TO ME, CRIMINAL INTENT, and LIFE ON MARS. Born in the United States to Zimbabwean parents, Gurira was raised in Zimbabwe. She presently lives in New York.
