A willful young boy and his just-as-obstinate grandmother journey across Iraq in search of their missing loved one, a former political prisoner. This stunning new work from the director of Ahlaam is a testament to Iraq's continuing search for justice and closure after Saddam Hussein's fall.

Iraq in 2003. Three weeks after the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime. In northern Iraq, Ahmed, a bright twelve-year-old Kurd sets off with his grandmother in search of his father who was arrested by Saddam's Republican Guard at the end of the Gulf War and whom Ahmed longs to meet at last. As they travel along bombed out desert tracks they encounter others with similar quests. Everyone is searching for someone; for a new beginning, and a future.
Ahmed and his grandmother arrive in southern Babylon where they meet a former soldier of the Republican Guard who might be able to help them. Although Ahmed is still much too young to really understand what this trip means to him, it will nonetheless change his life dramatically.
Director Mohamed Al-Daradji produced this film on a tiny budget with his own production company, Human Film. He filmed at original locations with a cast of nonprofessionals. The female lead is played by a Kurd, Shezad Hussen, the only female witness to testify during the trial against Saddam Hussein, whose regime was one of the most brutal of the last fifty years. Saddam was not only tried for war crimes but also for the consequences of his rule of terror in Iraq itself. Since 2003, countless mass graves have been uncovered; the majority of the corpses can no longer be identified.

Irak 2003, seit drei Wochen ist das Saddam-Regime gestürzt. Im Nordirak macht sich Ahmed, ein aufgeweckter zwölfjähriger Kurde, mit seiner Großmutter auf die Suche nach seinem Vater, der bei Ende des Golf kriegs, zwölf Jahre zuvor, von Saddam Husseins Republikanischen Garden gefangen genommen wur de und den er endlich kennenlernen will. Auf ihrem Weg entlang der zerbombten Wüstenpisten begegnen ihnen Menschen, die ihnen helfen können oder denen es ähnlich geht wie ihnen. Alle sind auf der Suche nach irgendwem, nach einem Neu anfang, einer Perspektive.
Ahmed und seine Großmutter erreichen den Süden Babylons. Hier lernen sie einen ehemaligen Soldaten der Repu bli ka ni schen Garde kennen, der ihnen vielleicht weiterhelfen kann. Obwohl Ahmed noch viel zu jung ist, um wirklich zu verstehen, was diese Reise für ihn bedeutet, wird sie sein Leben vollständig verändern.
Der Regisseur Mohamed Al-Daradji produzierte diesen Film mit seiner eigenen Produktionsfirma Human Film mit einem kleinen Budget an Originalschau plätzen und mit Laien als Schauspielern. Die weibliche Hauptrolle spielt die Kurdin Shezad Hussen, die einzige Zeugin, die im Prozess ge gen Saddam Hussein aussagte. Sein Regime gehörte zu den brutalsten in der Geschichte der Republik Irak. Dabei sind es nicht nur die Kriegs verbrechen, für die Saddam der Prozess gemacht wurde, sondern auch die Folgen seiner Schreckensherrschaft im Irak selbst. Seit 2003 wurden zahlreiche Massen gräber entdeckt. Der größte Teil der Toten konnte nicht mehr identifiziert werden.
