Maciel Island, the suburbs of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Shantas is a young delinquent, of mixed-race complexion, barely of age. His small sheet metal house is located in "Villa Tranquila", one of the biggest shanty towns of Argentina. Along with his friends Víctor and Joni, he survives stealing small stuff. But Shantas is not a simple thief: Julio, the Umbanda priest of the hood who professes the power of the Orishá gods amongst the young people, has signaled him as a special being, an invincible and immortal being. The African tradition that came to the American continent along with the slaves remains alive in the religious practices and in the sacrifices that hundreds of the faithful carry out nowadays. Shantas is precisely a young man whose past is linked to Africa. His skin crossbreeds and his fascination for the Umbanda, a syncretic religion born out of the cultural shock between the animism and the Christianity, are both linked to his deepest origins. Within Shantas there flows a force that he barely manages to understand but that pushes him ahead with the full
conviction that a little part of him is immortal; that something will remain alive even at the cost of his own life. Therefore Shantas throws himself to his adventures in a world full of violence and social inequality, facing all the dangers not only with his gun but also with the strong conviction that nobody can kill him.
Outskirts of Cotonou, Republic of Benin, West Africa. Babárímisá is a 15 year-old child of a Yoruba community who suffers from a strange heart condition. Along with his mother, Morenike, they visit regularly a hospital ran by Christians that treats the people of the area for free. Nevertheless the resources of the hospital are minimal and not much can be done for Babárímisá's health. The possibilities of surviving are meager and the doctor does not hesitate at the time of communicating it to Morenike. After all, Babárímisá is just a number: the African continent has the highest infantile mortality rate of the planet.
But Morenike does not intend to sit down and wait. When they leave the hospital they go to Irawo's house, a Yoruba priestess to whom she resorts to raise her request to the ancestors and to the Orishá gods. Morenike is afraid to have offended some deity and that that has resulted in her son's disease. That way and with Irawo's help, they begin to carry out all kinds of rituals and sacrifices to re-establish his harmony link with the Orishá gods and, unknowingly, they set in motion a mechanism that goes way beyond their own imagination and reaches the most remote destinations in a South American shanty town.
None of them is aware of what appears to be a higher force manipulating them. Nevertheless, their paths come together tragically from different events on each side of the ocean. A rape. An unrestrained desire for revenge. A man willing to do anything to give
hope back to those who need it the most. An Evangelist Foundation that tries to wash its corrupted image. An unimaginable trip.
America and Africa were one day a single continent. Today, their universes are separated by a lot more than a gigantic ocean. But their shores summon each other once again and they seem to almost touch each other in this plot of violence and desperation, whose
narrative moves with crudeness across dark worlds, highlighting this way the incandescent power of hope.

Isla Maciel, Gran Buenos Aires, República Argentina. Shantas es un joven delincuente, de aspecto mestizo, apenas mayor de edad. Su pequeña casita de chapa se haya en Villa Tranquila, uno de los asentamientos marginales más extensos de la Argentina. Junto a sus amigos Víctor y Joni, sobrevive robando pequeños comercios. Pero Shantas no es un simple ladrón: Julio, el sacerdote Umbanda del barrio que profesa el poder de los dioses Orishás entre los jóvenes, lo ha señalado como un ser especial, un ser invencible e inmortal. La tradición africanista que llegó al continente americano junto con los esclavos permanece viva en las prácticas religiosas y en los sacrificios que cientos de fieles llevan a cabo hoy en día. Shantas es precisamente un joven cuyo pasado está vinculado al África. Su piel mestiza y su fascinación por el Umbanda, una religión sincrética producto del choque entre el animismo y el cristianismo, dan cuenta de sus más profundos orígenes. En Shantas fluye una fuerza que ni siquiera él mismo alcanza a comprender pero que lo empuja hacia delante con la plena convicción de que algo de sí es inmortal; algo permanecerá vivo, incluso a costa de su propia vida. De esa forma Shantas se lanza en sus aventuras a través de un mundo signado por la violencia y la desigualdad social, enfrentando todos los peligros no sólo con su pistola sino también con el fuerte convencimiento de que nadie puede matarlo.
Afueras de Cotonou, República de Benin, Oeste africano. Babárímisá es un niño de una comunidad Yoruba que con apenas quince años sufre de una extraña enfermedad del corazón. Junto a su madre, Morenike, visitan con regularidad un hospital asentado por cristianos que atiende gratuitamente a la gente de la zona. Sin embargo los recursos del hospital son mínimos y no hay mucho que puedan hacer por la salud de Babárímisá. Las posibilidades de sobrevivir son exiguas y el doctor no vacila a la hora de comunicárselo a Morenike. Después de todo Babárímisá es solamente otro más: el continente africano tiene el índice de mortalidad infantil más alto del planeta.
Pero Morenike no tiene intenciones de sentarse a esperar. Apenas abandonan el hospital se dirige a la casa de Irawo, una sacerdotisa Yoruba a quien recurre para elevar su petición a los ancestros y a los dioses Orishas. Morenike teme haber ofendido a alguna deidad y que eso haya resultado en que su hijo enferme. De esa manera y de la mano de Irawo, comienzan a llevar a cabo todo tipo de rituales y sacrificios para reestablecer su vínculo de armonía con los dioses Orishás y, sin saberlo, ponen en funcionamiento un mecanismo que va mucho más allá de su propia imaginación y que alcanza los destinos más recónditos en una villa miseria de Sudamérica.
Ninguno está al tanto de lo que pareciera ser una fuerza superior manipulándolos. Sin embargo, sus caminos confluyen trágicamente a partir de diferentes sucesos a cada lado del océano. Una violación. Un deseo irrefrenable de venganza. Un hombre dispuesto a todo con tal de devolverle la esperanza a quienes más la necesitan. Una Fundación evangelista que pretende lavar su imagen de corrupción. Un viaje inimaginable.
América y África fueron alguna vez un único continente. Hoy, sus universos se hayan distanciados por mucho más que un gigantesco océano. Pero sus orillas vuelven a llamarse la una a la otra y parecieran prácticamente poder tocarse en esta historia de violencia y desesperación, cuyo relato se mueve con crudeza a través de mundos oscuros, resaltando de esta manera el fulgor incandescente de la esperanza.
