Benamar Bakhti's film "L'épopée du Cheikh Bouamama", released in 1983, written by Boualem Bessaih and produced by public television (ENTV). The film was made with a cinema logistics in partnership with Italian teams. The film was released in several countries including Russia in 1985 and in the Arab world. It has never been broadcasted on a French television or in a French movie theater.
The film had highlighted an actor rarely played in the cinema: Athmane Ariouet who distinguished himself by playing with accuracy the charisma and spirituality of Sheikh Bouamama.
The success of the film convinced the winning duo Benamar Bakhti and Boualem Bessaih to continue in the portrayal of the heroes of the struggle against colonialism. Projects on Emir Abdelkader and Sheikh Mokrani were in preparation, but were eventually abandoned due to the economic crisis that hit the country after the end of the 80s.
