Peres Owino is a Kenyan born Hollywood based actress, standup comedian, producer and director. She is also the President and CEO of Nyar Nam (Daughter of the Lake) Productions.
She nurtured her acting skills on the theatre stage while still in high school in Kenya and later turned it into a career after attending university in Wisconsin, USA. She has played some of theatre's most revered roles including Shakespeare's Hamlet and Lady Macbeth and 'Sonnerie' from Peter Barnes' "Red Noses". She has also written and directed plays of her own including 2009's Beauty For Ashes (The story is about a Kenyan woman who takes a journey to herself–a witty and honest look at how the ghosts of our past terrorize us and how that little voice in our head may be our only source of refuge.) and 2010's Cut which was part of the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
But Peres has always had a certain bias toward film due to its lasting effect. In an interview with the African Women in Cinema Blog, she says that she fell in love with cinema as a kid while watching The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Her biggest role yet is in Default which is currently in post-production and is directed by Simon Brand.
She has co-starred in FX TV series Terriers and also had an uncredited role in Inception. She is currently directing a gripping documentary called Africans versus African Americans: Healing the Silent Sibling Rivalry (The documentary uses testimonials to expose the seldom-discussed ways that Africans and African Americans view each other, and looks at the cultures' shared history to foster mutual understanding.)which will feature Grey's Anatomy star Isaiah Washington.
She has also made appearances on BuniTV  Comedy series, Bosco's Guitar, Terriers and Haleema.
Her other notable achievements; author of book On The Verge, standup performance at Hollywood Improv Comedy Club.
Peres prefers roles that are challenging and interesting to research. And to blow off steam, she does scuba diving, roller-blading and traditional African dances.
