Director / Karine Birgé
French, born in the former battlefield of industrial Lorraine, Karine Birgé has lived in Belgium for around ten years. An actress, trained at the Conservatoire Royal in Liège, she has been involved in creating shows for children at international venues, and alternates between screen writing, acting and directing.
Time spent working with director Bénédicte Liénard in Cinétroupe greatly influenced her career. She was able to experiment with writing for documentaries, but also in Brussels she uncovered the everyday lives of the refugees at the Petit Château, stateless, and without any identity documents, and followed their social and cultural struggles over a number of years.
A compulsive traveller, Karine currently works within a number of organisations such as "Dar Al Amal" where she leads writing groups for women. She recently returned from a trip to China and Japan and brought back ideas for several film projects, already underway. She also recently created the Object Theatre company"KARYATIDES" with Marie Delhaye.
