AFRIFF 2011: Organisers call for entry
Organisers of this yearʼs Africa International Film Festival
(AFRIFF) have started calling for entries for the 2011 edition of the
festival. The entry which opened March 30 will close on AUGUST 30 2011.
AFRIFF is a celebration of filmmaking and a platform for the recognition of new and established talents from all over the world. It hosts local and international filmmakers, celebrities, actors, producers, distributors, visual artists, film students, amateurs and the press. The first edition held in Port Harcourt last December with Rivers state government as major sponsor.
Chief Executive Officer of AFRIFF, Mrs. Chioma Ude, in a statement noted that this yearʼs edition would be a masterpiece as serious efforts are being made to overhaul the total gamut of the processes that would lead to achieving a world class festival.
While reeling out submission guidelines for the festival which is the new annual appointment of the world film community celebrated on Africaʼs soil, she said each entry must be accompanied by a completed entry form and on DVD. Foreign language work must be dubbed or subtitled in English, including a concise synopsis of the film. Besides, all tapes/DVDs must be labelled with the title of the entry, running time, and the name of the director.
According to her, ʻʼall entries will be viewed by the selection committee as there will be no cuts or changes. Festival selections will be announced in September while all entrants will be notified by email. A festival jury is expected to present awards to films and videos selected as best in their category at the festival awards ceremony scheduled for December.ʼʼ
Practitioners in the industry who wish to enter for the various categories are required to follow the entry guidelines posted on the AFRIFF website www.africafilmfest.com. Eligible films must have been produced after January 1, 2011 and preference will be given to films which are yet to be screened globally or in Africa.
Categories include Feature, Short, Documentary and Animation.
