Synopsis Four Algerians talk about their relationships with the pieds-noirs, the Europeans and Jews who left the southern side of the Mediterranean in masses in 1962, when Algeria proclaimed its independence. From Skikda and Constantine in the East to Oran in the West, from stories of music to accounts of massacres, we follow four dramatic destinies as we are led back to the years of national liberation: a far cry from the clichés on the Algerian War, by a filmmaker whose passion is his country's history. Comment Algeria, Unspoken Stories consists of four surprising accounts, four tragic stories. Each witness tells his own story to Jean-Pierre Lledo, who in turn presents them to the spectator with precision, and always with a surprise in store. Each of the narrators has a past that hurts for different reasons. Katiba, for instance, is not recognised by her own people in the neighbourhood of Bab el Oued, where she grew up. Blonde with blue eyes and dressed "like a European", she is insulted by a young man who could be her son. These are stories that are little known. One has to hear the Muslim Oranis evoke the dances of their youth in Spanish; or listen to Aziz who misses his neighbour, a farmer of Corsican origin. There is Hamid, who discovers the Arab companions of Raymond Leiris, a whiz of the Arab-Andalusian oud, murdered in broad daylight in the streets of Constantine in 1961. Each account is an appointment with emotion.
