Orphelin du Sida, LUCKY quitte son village pour se rendre à Durban, chez son oncle, dans l'espoir d'aller à l'école. Mais la réalité est plus dure qu'il ne l'imagine. Son oncle ne s'occupe pas de lui et LUCKY doit affronter l'hostilité de la vie urbaine, la peur et la méfiance des gens. Le premier obstacle : la voisine indienne, qui déteste les Noirs.
